Outline (in English)

Outline: The course aims to develop the basic skills required for Japanese studies, including reading various literature on Japan, summarizing its contents, and writing essay-style sentences to express their own opinions. Additionally, the course seeks to cultivate students' ability to articulate their own research plans and present them in a clear and feasible manner.
 
Goal: By the end of the course, students should be able to do the followings:
- To read various articles on Japanese language, literature, history, culture, and society and understand the contents, perspectives, and significance.
- To improve reading and writing skills through summarizing the contents of literature.
- To compose one's own opinions into essay-style sentences and write academic papers in an appropriate format.
- To concretely form a research plan for writing a master's thesis and present it in writing. 
 
Learning activities outside of classroom: Students are expected to spend about four hours before and after each class period on assignments and independent study.
 
Grading Criteria / Policies: In accordance with the above Goals, the following two will be scored.
- Assignments 60.
- Format and clarity of research plan 40.
