Outline (in English)

(Course outline)The Holy Roman Empire, which spread across Germany, Austria, the Czech Republic, the Benelux countries, northern Italy, and Switzerland, was the opposite of the centralized and authoritarian state that the word "empire" conjures up. It has been considered a typical example of a "divided state." However, that view has now changed, and it is now being referred to as a model for the EU. We will study the history of this hybrid political community from various angles, and together with students we will consider its possibilities and limitations.
(Learning Objectives)By recognizing the pluralism of the political order in early modern Europe and understanding its mechanisms and the complexity of the underlying society, a history that examines modern sovereign states from multiple perspectives and critically and resolves their problems. Acquire technical skills.
(Learning activities outside of classroom)Although we have created resumes that are as easy to understand as possible, there may be some technical terms that may be unfamiliar to students who are tackling this topic for the first time. We will show you some important points during class, so please write down the historical background of them in the margins of the resumes you will receive.
