Outline (in English)

Course outline: This course deals with the fall of the Roman Republic and Caesar's role in it. Analyzing chronorogically the life of Caesar, the destroyer of the traditional order, it helps students learn the outline of this period and explore the new system he schemed and its reality.
Learning Objectives: The followings are the goals of this course.
- Students are able to acquire fundamental knowledge concerning the history of the late Roman Republic.
- Using primary sources properly, students are able to estimate the role of Caesar played in the fall of the Roman Republic.
Learning activities outside of classroom: Before/after each class meeting, students will be expected to spend four hours to understand the course content. They are required to read relevant books, such as those listed in the reference section, and learn by themselves.
Grading Criteria: Grading will be decided based on term-end examination (80%) and in-class contribution (20%).
