Outline (in English)

The aim of this course is to acquire an understanding of a part of Japanese ancient thought through reading thoroughly "Nihon-shoki." In particular, since "Nihon-shoki" is one of the foundations of Japanese historical thought, we will seek to understand what the Japanese way of historical narrative was all about. By the end of this course, students should be able to fully grasp the background of Japanese thought.
Student will be expected to have completed the required assignments after each class. Your study time will be more than six hours for a class.
Grading will be decided based on the quality of the students' experimental performance in the lab 70%, in-class contribution 30%.
