Outline (in English)

【Course outline】
This course focuses on reading activities in school libraries, centering around "learning" and "reading". It systematically covers the significance and objectives of reading activities, the history and regulations of reading education, and the evolution of children's literature. In lectures, we consider books and teaching methods suitable for children's developmental stages, while also experientially addressing reading in school libraries and its role in supporting the educational curriculum.
Through this course, students will understand the significance and objectives of reading, and learn practically about how to utilize reading in school libraries. The aim is to comprehend the role of a librarian-teacher in connecting children with books.

・Can describe the significance and goals of reading.
・Can explain the relationship between school libraries and reading instruction.
・Can explain reading instruction appropriate to each stage of a child's development.
・Knows and can practice methods to connect children with books.
・Can explain the relationship between various subjects, inquiry-based learning, and school libraries.
【Learning activities outside of classroom】
Review what you have learned in each class and prepare for the next lecture. Prepare for presentations and assignments as appropriate. 【Grading Criteria /Policy】
Attitude toward class participation, assignments/reports, and examinations will be evaluated comprehensively. Attitude to actively engage in lectures, such as exercises and discussions, will be especially highly evaluated. 50 points for regular class work (including presentations on assignments, etc.), 20 points for assignments and reports, and 30 points for the final examination.
