Outline (in English)

Japan is currently facing a number of challenges, including (1) coping with the declining birthrate and aging population, (2) dealing with fiscal reconstruction, and (3) stabilizing the financial system. In this lecture, we will study the actual situation and basic theories on economic activities of the government and financial institutions, and then refer to data on the actual Japanese fiscal and financial situation.

To understand the concept of the role of government in a market-based economy. Also, understand the issues surrounding Japan's public finances and finance. Students will then acquire the logical thinking and analytical skills to be able to form their own opinions on the role of the government and how Japan's finances should be and will be in the future.

At present, we plan to basically follow the lecture materials. If there is any reference literature, it will be indicated each time. In addition, the following topics will be covered in each session, but the speed of the class will be changed as necessary, taking into account the level of knowledge and understanding of the students.

Preparation and review time is estimated to be 4 hours each.

The plan is to evaluate the students on the basis of their in-class assignments (40%) and a final exam (60%).
