Outline (in English)

(Course outline)This course helps students acquire the professional skills and knowledge to write their doctoral dissertation in pre-modern western history. It also lays the foundation for their becoming an independent researcher and educator.
(Learning Objectives)The followings are the goals of this course.
- Students are able to read accurately and critically historical sources written in Latin.
- Students are able to prepare to make presenations at academic conferences and to submit papers for journals.
- Students are able to help students in the master's course based on the skills and knowledge acquired throughout their career.
(Learning activities outside of classroom)Students’ study time will be far more than four hours for a class. They are expected to progress their own research in order to accomplish their dissertation, and prepare to help students in the master's course.
(Grading Criteria /Policy)Grading will be decided based on students' effort to accomplish their own dissertation (70%), and their preparation to help students in the master's course (30%).
