Outline (in English)

(Course outline)This course helps students acquire the professional skills and knowledge to write their master's thesis on pre-modern western history.
(Learning Objectives)The followings are the goals of this course.
- Students are able to read accurately and critically academic texts written in foreign languages.
- Students are able to read accurately and critically historical sources written in Latin.
- Students are able to progress their research and to make a logical and convincing presentation on it.
(Learning activities outside of classroom)Students’ study time will be at least four hours for a class. They are expected to make a translation of the assigned Latin text before each class meeting, and after the class to review their own translation. They are also required to progress their own research and prepare to make a presentation on it.
(Grading Criteria /Policy)Grading will be decided based on the preparation for each class meeting (40%), the reading comprehension of Latin texts (40%), and in-class contribution (20%).
