Outline (in English)

Introduction to Comparative Media Studies: Adaptation, Intermediality, and Remediation
(Course outline)In this class, we will take the adaptation of literary works to film as a starting point and read excerpts from classic research papers in this field to discuss with you what the issues are and what approaches are possible in terms of expression across different media.
(Learning Objectives)By the end of the course, students should be able to do the followings:
- understand an overview of comparative media studies.
- acquire methods for analyzing literary and artistic expression across media and apply them in practice.
- communicate one's own ideas logically and persuasively in discussions and to contribute to the discussion.
(Learning activities outside of classroom)Students will be expected to have completed the required assignments after each class meeting. Your study time will be more than four hours for a class.
(Grading Criteria /Policy)Your overall grade in the class will be decided based on the following:
Term-end presentation: 40%, in class contribution: 60%
