Outline (in English)
In this course, students are expected to carefully read Aldous Huxley's Brave New World (1932) and discuss the text and its relevant themes and issues. The course also refers to films and studies on the author and his work. The goals of this course are to acquire the technique of interpreting literature and present a new interpretation convincingly. Before/after each class meeting, students will be expected to spend four hours to understand the course content. The final grade will be calculated according to the following process: participation in discussion (30%), presentation (30%) and term-end essay (40%).

この授業では、Aldous HuxleyのBrave New World (1932)を原文で精読し、書かれている内容や扱われているテーマや問題についてみなで議論する。映画や先行研究も参考にする。
文学を解釈するための専門的技術を身につけ、自分の解釈を説得力をもって主張することが目的である。

・Brave New Worldを読了し、その背景事情を含めて説明できる
・歴史的文脈やほかの作品との関係でテクストの意義を論じられる
・先行研究を踏まえて、自分の解釈を明確に表現できる
・長編小説を読み通せるだけの英語力をつける

発表者はレジュメを必ず用意すること。レジュメには、要約のみならず論点や意見などの提示が必要である。発表にあたっていなくても、テクストをしっかりと読み、自身の考えをまとめてゼミに参加すること。
予習・復習は各2時間を標準とする。
