Outline (in English)
This course focuses on the characteristics of Japanese and Okinawan approach mainly in classical poetry, prose and culture. The topic will be further highlighted by discussing differences in Eastern and Western world views, and by encouraging students to develop and present their own ideas on importance and position of Japanese traditional culture in the global world.

授業の概要と目的（何を学ぶか）Outline and objectives
日本の古典文学と和歌、沖縄の琉歌から読み取れる日本の伝統文化について考えていきます。日本の文学と沖縄の文学の比較だけでなく、東洋と西洋の文学、文化、考え方も紹介し、それぞれの特徴について学びます。グローバル世界に置かれている日本の伝統文化の位置付けに関する意識を深め、考察力を促します。
This course focuses on the characteristics of Japanese and Okinawan approach mainly in classical poetry, prose and culture. 1．代表的な文学作品、表現、修辞法について学ぶことで、その文化や歴史的な背景に関する理解が深まります

3．学んだことや気付いたことについて各自が意見交換、議論、プレゼンテーションすることによって幅広い考察力を身に付けることができます
Through this course you will acquire the following skills:
1. You will deepen your understanding of Japanese culture, history and literature by studying classical Japanese literary works together with literary devices and expressions
2. You will further enhance your understanding of culture and literature by comparing literary works and cultures of Japan and Okinawa as well as comparing them with Western philosophical and literary approaches
3. You will learn how to express your ideas in speaking and writing by engaging in discussions and presentations and submitting a final essay on a designated topic

プリントや映像資料を使用した講義形式での授業を基本としますが、コースの後半において、受講生には、各自が学んだ知識を最大限に活用し、関心のある関連分野について考察した成果を発表してもらう機会を設けます。また、最終回には授業で取り上げたテーマに関してのエッセイを提出して頂きます。
課題に対する説明やコメント等は授業の最後に行います。そこでは受講生からの質問も受け付けます。

前回の授業で学んだことを復習し、授業内に行われる発表および最後に提出するエッセイを書くための十分な考察を進めて頂きたい。
本授業の準備・復習時間は、各2時間を標準とします。
Please revise all the materials distributed in class, as they will form the basis for the discussions and final essay. In addition, each student will be asked to deliver an oral presentation on a designated topic and to submit a final essay at the end of the semester.
Preparatory study and review time for this class are 2 hours each.

成績評価の方法と基準Grading criteria
平常点（授業への参加、毎時提出するリアクションペーパー、ディスカッションへの参加等、約30%）、発表（40%）、エッセイ（30%）により評価します。
Grading criteria:
- Active participation in class (expressing opinions, engaging in discussions): 30%
- Oral presentation: 40%
- Final essay: 30%
