Outline (in English)

This course offers students an introduction into discourses about Japanese culture. It is designed to give an overview of key texts and concepts between the late Meiji-period until the end of the Pacific war in international perspective. Students can expect to come out of the course better prepared to engage in an informed discussion about international discourses about Japanese culture and the challenges for future research in the field of Japanese studies.
