Outline (in English)

In this course, we will learn various approaches and methods for understanding the development and changes in Japanese society from a global perspective. A global perspective means researching and analyzing Japanese society through comparison with other countries and regions and exploring transnational connections and linkage between Japan and foreign countries. The course will particularly discuss the following topics for social research - gathering data, analyzing qualitative data, and outputs. Also, we will deepen our knowledge about Japan and, at the same time, further explore individuals’ research projects through reading books and articles on various historical and global changes in Japanese society and politics. Also, we will learn different methods for qualitative analysis and further develop participants’ individual projects.
