Outline (in English)

[Course outline]
In this course, students will learn about the fundamental principles and cognitive mechanisms that underlie the processing of spoken language.
[Learning objectives]
By the end of the course, students should be able to describe the physical properties of spoken language and the mechanisms underlying how it is produced and perceived by humans. Students should also be able to analyze speech using appropriate software.
[Learning activities outside of classroom]
(1) For each class period, students should do the assigned reading, work on homework assignments, and prepare for presentation and discussion for the next class. (2) Students should also spend time using speech analysis software and present its output in class. The standard study time required before and after each class is 4 hours total.
[Grading criteria/policy]
Grades will be determined based on attendance and participation (25%), homework (50%), and final paper (25%).
