Outline (in English)

<Course outline> Among the natural environments in cold regions (i.e., high altitude mountainous regions, high latitude regions), we will focus on various landforms and understand their historical development and morphogenetic processes. The subject matter is mainly referred from Japan, but if there are no typical examples in Japan, we will also take up overseas cases. One day trip to the Okutama Area west of central Tokyo will be planned as fieldwork.
<Learning Objectives> By taking this lecture, you will be able to understand the variety of landforms in cold regions, their formation processes, as well as their relationships with global environmental changes in the Quaternary period.
<Learning activities outside of classroom> Students will be expected to have completed the required assignments after each class meeting. Your study time will be more than four hours for a class.
<Grading Criteria /Policies> Grading will be decided based on classroom and fieldwork reports (90%), and the quality of the students' experimental performance in both the lab and the fieldwork (10%).
