Outline (in English)

Course outline: This course deals with the issue of legislation in the Roman Republic (6-1 century B.C.). Analyzing it from both institutional and practical aspects, it helps students learn the characteristics of governance in this ancient polity.
Learning Objectives: The followings are the goals of this course.
- Students are able to acquire fundamental knowledge concerning legislation in the Roman Republic.
- Using primary sources properly, students are able to estimate the influence of the people over the outcome of lawmaking.
Learning activities outside of classroom: Before/after each class meeting, students will be expected to spend four hours to understand the course content. They are required to read relevant books, such as those listed in the reference section, and learn by themselves.
Grading Criteria: Grading will be decided based on term-end examination (80%) and in-class contribution (20%).
