Outline (in English)

This course covers the development and afterlife of modernist poetry, starting from the late nineteenth century to the mid-twentieth century. What we call modernist poetry was radically different from the poetry of previous generations. We will read it in various literary and historical contexts, including the two world wars. How is modernist poetry different from Romantic and Victorian poetry? How did later generations respond to the legacy of modernism?

There will be some lectures, but most of the class time will be devoted to students' active participation. Students will receive feedback on their work in class, via Hoppii, and during office hours. The format of this class in a given week could change, depending on the Covid situation. Grades will be determined based on assignments, presentations, and participation (60%) and the final paper (40%).
