Outline (in English)

[Lecture Title:] Reading Jewett’s The Country of the Pointed Firs
Students learn to carry to a higher level the skillful analysis of language and text, by close reading of Sarah Orne Jewett's "Dunnet Landing Stories" including the "novel." Students also obtain knowledge about literary regionalism or "local color" and about its developments in the nineteenth to twentieth centuries.
[Learning activities outside of classroom:] Before/after each class meeting, students are expected to spend 2 hours
respectively to understand the course content.
[Grading Criteria/Policies:] Overall grade in the class will be decided based on the following: in-class contribution [positive participation] (70%),final report [paper] (30%).
