Outline (in English)

[Course outline]
In this course, students will learn the basics of articulatory phonetics.
[Learning Objectives]
At the end of the course, students should be able to explain to others how spoken language is produced. In particular, students should be able to explain the basic concepts and terminology of articulatory phonetics.
[Learning activities outside of classroom]
(1) Students should do the weekly assigned reading and prepare for in-class discussion, (2) when it is their turn to present, students should prepare handouts and lead the discussion, and (3) if homework is assigned, students should work on the assignment and complete it before the deadline. The standard study time required before and after each class is 4 hours total.
[Grading criteria/policy]
Grades will be determined based on class attendance and participation (40%) and homework (60%).
