Outline (in English)

The structures with stone walls similar to castles or fortresses are called gusuku in Okinawa. The Omoros in the Omoro Soshi are the oldest literature that refer to the gusuku. Deepening the understanding of gusuku leads to learning about unknown history of Ryukyu. In this course, you will read Omoros related to gusuku to understand Ryukyuan culture.
 The goal of this course is to understand gusuku and ancient Ryukyuan culture.
Intensive reading of textbooks and references is necessary before and after each class. Required study time is one hour for a class.
The final grade will be evaluated by in-class performance (40%) and the result of the term-end examination (60 %).
