Outline (in English)

(Course outline)The FIFA world cup in Qatar waits for their opening ceremony in half a year, though we had etched memories on the Tokyo Olympics. However, once looking back in history, you could find that sports did not develop smoothly. It was only 80 years ago as the sports suffered a great damage from the world war. Where could you find the origin of our sports? The requirement of the class is to catch up the way we walked along, by inquiring around the history of sports and to check how our society have treated the sports in the past.
(Learning Objectives) It is impossible to pinpoint the origins of sports in our calendar. At best, we can only point out how far back in time we can trace the actions and traces of the elements that we can find in sports. How nature, war, economics, and diplomacy have surrounded sports in the process of getting from the ancient times to the present. One of the goals of the lecture will be to reveal this.
Aware of the basic principles of competition (the strongest win, the fastest are crowned, and the group with the best tactics is honored), what has remained important and what has remained the same? When we examine the various requirements that have influenced each milestone, by extension, we can acquire a view of the sporting world that is relevant today.
(Learning Activities outside of Classroom) Modern sports history cannot be told without political, economic, and social history. To deepen your understanding, take a broad view into the world around sports. For those of you who have your own sports to play, keep an eye out for the instantaneous action around athletes and their post-game behavior as brought to you by the latest video footage. As you learn, you will find that two hours of preparation and review time is not enough.
(Grading Criteria/Policy)The sum total of the evaluation of "assignments for each lecture" and "in-class examinations to be set during the final lecture time" will be the factor for credit approval.
Face-to-face: "Assignments for each lecture" will be written and submitted on the spot within the designated time during the lecture time (since they require writing in a relatively short period of time, students are encouraged to develop their writing skills on a regular basis).
Points will be given according to the content of the answers given by nomination or by raising hands.
Score: 39 points (3 points/0.1 point increments x 13) for each of the 13 assignments in the lecture, excluding the final day, if the student continues to receive full marks.
The final paper exam (20 points for term/phrase questions, 25 x 2 = 50 points for the essay) must be taken in the final lecture.
If all are perfect, 109 points will be awarded.

For students who represent the school during regular lectures, or who are absent due to illness or unavoidable absences from weddings and funerals, an additional report assignment (maximum 3 points) will be posted via the Learning Support System after the final exam in lieu of the in-class assignment (e.g., the default document, designated Athletic Association documents, funeral cards, copies of receipts dated from medical institutions, etc.). and copies of dated receipts from medical institutions, etc.]. However, this condition applies only up to three times per person. Absences for personal reasons are not eligible for relief. In this case, the report will be more voluminous than the regular in-class assignments.

The final exam, an important component of the credit, is scheduled on the last day of class, not during the exam period, so please be sure not to miss it.
