Outline (in English)

(Course outline)
The aim of this class is to review the historical development of management control systems. We will focus on the performance evaluation systems, clarifying their historical development and the characteristics of each evaluation criteria.

(Learning objectives)
At the end of this class, students are expected to read academic papers on management accounting on their own, understand their contents, and critically examine them. In particular, by reviewing several studies focusing on the use of performance management systems, students are expected to master the various concepts of performance evaluation criteria and how to use them. In addition, to be able to explain in one's own words the advantages and problems of various performance measures.

(Learning activities outside of classroom)
The standard amount of time for pre- and post-activity for this class is 2 hours each. Students are required to read the assigned papers in advance and attend the class. At that time, they should organize the contributions of the paper, its limitations, and methodological issues.

(Grading criteria)
The evaluation will be based on the content of the part to be reported in the lecture (30 points), your participation in the discussion during the lecture (20 points), and the content of the final report (50 points). Active participation in the discussion during the lecture will be evaluated.
