Outline (in English)

【Course outline】 There are two themes in this exercise. One is to analyze and discuss works such as novels, plays, cartoons, animations, and movies. The second is to deepen our understanding of the world in which we live by analyzing events occurring in society. In parallel with the exercises, each student will write a paper on a theme of his/her own choice and present it.
【Learning Objectives】 The goals of the course are to
1. be able to understand and analyze stories
2. be able to consider social phenomena and issues in contemporary Japan
3. be able to lead useful discussions as a facilitator
4. be able to summarize one's thoughts logically
5. be able to express one's thoughts and communicate them to others.
【Learning activities outside of classroom】 Four hours per week are required for assignments, presentations, and thesis work.
【Grading Criteria /Policy】
For 2nd and 3rd year students, credit will be granted for a total of 60% or more, consisting of 40% for regular marks, 40% for papers, and 20% for presentations. However, a minimum of 70% is required to enroll in the seminar in the following year. If a student misses 5 or more seminars without a valid reason, no credits will be granted.
Fourth-year students are required to take the following graduation thesis instructions: (1) theme selection, (2) material search and outline preparation, (3) first draft, and (4) completed draft.
