Outline (in English)

(1)Course Outline
This lecture will cover business regulations especially for
public utilities. Utilities, such as telecommunications,
transportation, and energy, are very familiar to people’s life.
We use them on a daily basis, and pay for them. We will learn
how the various businesses are regulated,and why businesses
are not entrusted to complete free competition and receive state
intervention, despite being in a market economy. Also, business
sectors subject to regulations besides so called utilities may be
covered in the lecture.
Business regulations are an important legal system
included in the economic law. Through this lecture, attedants will gain broader
understanding of so called economic law along with other courses titled economic law I, II,
III.

(2)Learning Objectives
The course objective is to gain an understanding of the following;
(a) The appearance of the operation and function of business law
(b) The role of regulation in a market economy

(3)Learning Activities Outside of Classroom
Students are encouraged to review the cases discussed in
class after class to deepen their understanding. Also, it is
encouraged to keep abreast of the latest trends regarding the
application of antitrust laws through newspapers and other
media. The standard preparation and review time for this class
is 4 hours.
(4)Grading Criteria /Policy
70% for the assignments and 30% for participation and others.
Several report assignments will be given. Submission of the reaction papers will
be required in class and they are subject to class participation
grades(30%).
