Outline (in English)

The former Soviet countries have experienced various courses of political and economic transformation after the collapse of the Soviet Union. In this course, we will explore the characteristics of of the Soviet Union and examine the similarities and differences of the post-Soviet countries. The course puts emphasis on studying the above topics from theoretical perspectives. We will deal with the following questions: why have some post-Soviet countries become stable, but others not? What explains the differences of the political institutions built in these countries. Students will be required to write midterm papers and pass final exams.
