Outline (in English)

Japan is currently facing a number of challenges, including (1) coping with the declining birthrate and aging population, (2) dealing with fiscal reconstruction, and (3) stabilizing the financial system. In this lecture, we will study the actual situation and basic theories on economic activities of the government and financial institutions, and then refer to data on the actual Japanese fiscal and financial situation.

The goal of this course is to acquire basic knowledge to understand the current status and issues of Japanese public finances, finance, and social security systems and financial resources, and to examine the effects of fiscal and social security systems and monetary policies from an economics perspective.

At present, it is planned to basically follow the lecture materials. If there is any reference literature, it will be indicated each time. In addition, the following topics will be covered in each session, but the speed of the class will be changed as necessary, taking into account the level of knowledge and understanding of the students.

Preparation and review time is estimated to be 4 hours each.

Currently, the plan is to evaluate the students on the basis of their regular scores (attitude toward class and level of activity) (40%) and a final report (60%).
