Outline (in English)
Outline and objectives: This class will cover the history of British poetry from the era of the Old English (the early Medieval period) to the mid 20th century.
Learning activities outside of classroom: Before/after each class meeting, students will be expected to spend a total of four hours to understand the course content.
Grading Criteria/Policies: Final grade will be calculated according to the following process: reaction papers (30%), final exam (70%).

授業の概要と目的（何を学ぶか）Outline and objectives
古英語の時代（中世前期）から20世紀中期までのイギリス詩の歴史をたどりつつ、英詩において「私」がどのように表現されているかについて学ぶ。個人の内面を表現する抒情詩に対する理解を、国家の成立など大きなテーマを扱う叙事詩との比較を通じて深めていく。
到達目標Goal
イギリス詩の流れを、歴史の大きな動向と関連づけながら概観する。そのことをとおして、イギリスにおける抒情詩の伝統がどのように形成されてきたのかを学ぶ。文学作品の解釈の方法を身につけるとともに、作品の一部を英語で講読することをとおして、英語読解能力の向上もめざす。

原則として講義形式であるが、リアクションペーパーの提出などをとおしてできるだけコミュニケーションの機会をつくる。対面授業とオンライン授業を併用する。その授業形式にあわせて、授業内容の順序を変えることがある。
