Outline (in English)

Course Outline: People from other countries often say that Japanese people are non-religious, but our students will be able to argue about how true that statement is by the time that this lecture course is finished.
Learning Objectives: To understand the fundamentals of the more than one-thousand-year history of Buddhism in Japan, and its function as the base of Japanese literature.
Learning Activities Outside of the Classroom: Preparation and revision will each require two hours’ study.
Grading Criteria/Policy: Overall grades are determined according to: written reactions to lectures and in-class quizzes (40%); mid-semester test (20%); and final report (40%).
