Outline (in English)

Course Outline: The aim of the course is for students to be able to understand the history and significance of Japanese children’s literature. Students will create a short children’s story and have an evaluation session.
Learning Objectives: At the end of the course, students will be able to understand the major Japanese children’s literature from the Meiji era to the present. Students will read aloud Iwaya Sazanami’s Koganemaru. Students will also create an original children’s story and exchange opinions in an evaluation session.
Learning Activities Outside of the Classroom: Before each class session, students are expected to read the works discussed in the lecture. After class, they are to post their comments on Hoppii and confirm their attendance. During the course, students must create their own children’s story and evaluate their classmates’ works. The expected time of preparation and review for class is 2 hours per session.
Grading Criteria/Policy: Participation (attitude and comments) (40%); creation of children’s short story (20%); evaluation of classmates’ works (20%); short essay (20%).
