Outline (in English)

Course Outline: We will explore humanity in ancient Japan, through the study of Man’yōshū.
Learning Objectives: To acquire basic methods for reading Man’yōshū. To understand how interesting and important words can be.
Learning Activities Outside of the Classroom: Please read the handouts carefully. The standard preparation and review time for a class is 2 hours each (4 hours per week).
Grading Criteria/Policy: Grading will be based on the following: report exam (60%), attendance (40%, including reaction papers, etc.).
