Outline (in English)

Basic practice for writing novels, criticism, and essays.

Course Outline: Why do people write? What kind of act is writing? I believe that writing is not only a means or technique of expressing one’s thoughts, but also the act of thinking itself. This is true not only of literature (novels and criticism) but also of academia (essays, papers and research). Through writing, students confront their themes, interact with themselves, and discover their own ideas. This class is a place to learn to experience the essence of writing. Experience the joy and pain of writing with your whole body.
Learning Objectives: Students who successfully complete this course will: 1. discover what they want to write; 2. develop their own writing style; and 3. deepen their understanding of literature and scholarship.
Learning Activities Outside of the Classroom:
Students will be given instructions as needed, but mainly they will be asked to prepare essays after having presented a theme in advance. (Preparation of the assignment will take several hours each time.)
Grading Criteria/Policy: Students will be asked to submit four 800-word essays. The overall evaluation will be based on the evaluation of their content (50%) and the effort that went into their preparation (50%).
