Outline (in English)

The Japanese archipelago is made up of more than 15,000 islands. From time immemorial, social networks have been established between the various islands through mutually complementary coastal trade. The state of the social network of islands in this archipelago is closely related to the prosperity and decline of human society. This time, we are going to read "Nihon-nesia-ron" which was published in recent years. In this book, a new concept "Nihon-nesia" that captures the dynamics of the Japanese archipelago appears, and the Japanese islands are classified into 12 groups and various island cases are considered. In this course, we aim to deepen our understanding of the social system in the Japanese archipelago based on reading comprehension and overall discussion of this book. In addition, at the end of the schooling, we provide training that focuses on the graduation thesis, such as introducing the thesis and presenting the research theme by the students.
Before/after each class meeting, students will be expected to spend four hours to understand the course content.
Your overall grade in the class will be decided based on the following :
in class contribution : 50%, term-end reports : 50%
