Outline (in English)

Course outline
We will review the risk which poor households in developing countries face. We will study household decisions under uncertainty and asymmetric information. Based on these models, we will study insurance, share cropping, credit, saving, and entrepreneurship for poor households in developing countries.

Learning Objectives
In developing countries, poverty alleviation policies such as microfinance have been implemented. The goal of this class is that students will become able to proactively think and discuss economic issues related to developing countries based on economic theories, methods, and data.

Learning activities outside of classroom
Students will read around 20 pages of texts that form the basis of each lecture slide as a reading assignment before each lecture. Students will review the contents of the classes and exercises according to their own needs. The standard time for preparation and review for this class is 2 hours each.

Grading Criteria, Policies
Grading will be decided based on mid-term exams on online system (20%) and end-term exam (80%).
