Outline (in English)

The purpose of this course is to develop students' ability to understand and discuss contemporary issues related to the public and public policy from an ideological approach by reviewing literature, mainly on the concepts of "freedom/liberty" and "liberalism". (Learning Objectives) The goals of this course are to understand the relationship between the ideas and concepts of "freedom/liberty" and "liberalism" and the social/political systems such as "rule of law" and "democracy", and to be able to theoretically consider and explore contemporary issues related to the public and public policy. (Learning activities outside of classroom) Students will be expected to have read the relevant chapter from the text and review it after the class. In addition, students are expected to share in the preparation of in-class reports., and to write a term-end report to be presented at the end of the class. (Grading Criteria /Policy) Final grade will be calculated according to the following process; in-class report (30%), term-end report (50%), and in-class contribution(20%).
