Outline (in English)

(Course outline)
Modern pop culture spreads through multiple media such as the
Internet, social media, television, magazines and games, and has
various influences on social norms and our self-formation. In this class,
you focus on "Weekly Shonen Jump" one of the magazine media that
has been characterized from the perspective of gender, and learn about
issues facing modern society and suggestions for leading criticism of pop
culture to a prosperous future.
(Learning Objectives)
At the end of the course, students are expected to think about pop culture from a variety of perspectives by applying the gender-related perspectives learned in class to discover issues on their own, and by using information formed by various media., and identify research problems based on the differences and commonalities among different cultures.
(Learning activities outside of classroom)
In addition to researching literature and viewing art related to each theme, students will be expected to take notes on pop culture-related news and other topics of interest and use them in class discussions.
The standard preparation and review time for this class is 2 hours each.
(Grading Criteria /Policy)
The overall grade for the class will be determined based on the following
Attitude toward class participation: 30%, assignments to be written and submitted in class: 30%, final report: 40%.
