Outline (in English)

In recent years transnationalism has been a thriving approach
for understanding phenomena that cut across national borders
in social science and humanities. This course examines
Japan through such a transnational lens. We will first
learn different theoretical and methodological approaches to
transnationalism. Then, we explore various debates over
Japanese transnationalism by the Japanese authors along with
cases of transnational phenomena between Japan and foreign
countries.
