Outline (in English)

Course outline:
This lecture will discuss the newly developed monasticism of the High Middle Ages (late 11th-13th centuries) in the light of the prevailing religious mentality of the period. In particular, we will discuss how the monks interacted with secular society. Learning Objectives:
The goals of this course are to understand Christian monas- ticism, understand religious spirituality in medieval society through monasticism, and consider the interrelationship between monasticism and secular social life.
Learning activities outside of classroom:
Students should consolidate their understanding of the course content by reviewing the handouts and reading the bibliography.
Grading Criteria/Policy:
Short reports: 20%, Term-end report: 80%
