Outline (in English)
Course outline:
This lecture will discuss the newly developed monasticism of the High Middle Ages (late 11th-13th centuries) in the light of the prevailing religious mentality of the period. In particular, we will discuss how the monks interacted with secular society. Learning Objectives:
The goals of this course are to understand Christian monas- ticism, understand religious spirituality in medieval society through monasticism, and consider the interrelationship between monasticism and secular social life.
Learning activities outside of classroom:
Students should consolidate their understanding of the course content by reviewing the handouts and reading the bibliography.
Grading Criteria/Policy:
Short reports: 20%, Term-end report: 80%

本講義では、中世盛期（11世紀末〜13世紀）に広まった宗教的心性を踏まえて、当時新たに展開した修道制について論じる。特に修道士が世俗社会といかに交流していたのかを詳述する。
到達目標Goal
1. キリスト教修道制について理解できる。
2. 修道制を通して盛期中世社会における宗教的心性を理解できる。
3. 修道制と世俗の社会生活との相互関係について考察できる。
4. 史料の読解力を身につけ、それを他の分野に応用できる。
