Outline (in English)
This course focuses on the literature of the First World War. What are the main characteristics of WWI literature? We will answer this question by comparing WWI literature to texts written before and after the war.

第一次世界大戦にまつわる作品を読み、大戦文学の特徴を考える。第一次世界大戦の体験が当時の文学にどのように反映されているか。大戦特有の歴史観、帝国観とは何か。ヴァージニア・ウルフの小説 To the Lighthouse を中心に据え、大戦以前、大戦中、また大戦後の作品と比較していく。

Students will develop the ability to read texts closely, with an eye to their historical contexts.

The class revolves around students' presentations and discussions. There will be some lectures, but most of the class time will be devoted to students' active participation. Students will receive feedback on their work in class, via Hoppii, and during office hours.The format of this class in a given week could change, depending on the Covid situation.
