Outline (in English)
【Course Outline】
Students are expected to read texts written on a wide variety of topics. It is also expected that they are to express their own opinions through a short essay and presentation.
【Learning Objectives】
By the end of the course, students should be able to write cogent English essays.
【Learning activities outside of classroom】
Students are expected to read the relevant part of the textbook before the class. Writing specified essays is compulsory.
【Grading Criteria /Policy】
Grading will be decided based on presentation (50%) and class participation (50%).

授業の概要と目的（何を学ぶか）Outline and objectives
様々なトピックについて書かれた読み物を読み、そのトピックに関する背景知識や問題意識を持ったうえで、自分なりの考えを文章にして、それを下地に簡単なプレゼンテーションを行う。
到達目標Goal
英米圏の大学で必要とされる英語レベルでエッセーが書けるようになることを目標とする。

授業は原則として対面で行うものとする。ユニット前半の授業ではテキスト中の英文を読み、問題演習を行う。宿題として、指定されたトピックについてのエッセーを書いてもらう。ユニット後半の授業では宿題で書いてきたエッセーを教員と共に推敲し、出来上がった原稿をもとにプレゼンテーションを行う。

偶数回の授業で行うプレゼンテーション (50%) と授業での貢献度 (50%) で評価する。

読解力をもう少し身につけたいという受講者が意外に多いので、その点に配慮する。
