Outline: In this class, we will read the Preface to Kant's Critique of Pure Reason (1st and 2nd editions) to clarify the problem-solving and thinking methods inherent in critical philosophy. We will also use the Japanese translation of the text to master the reading of the German text and the writing of the paper. However, students who have not yet completed a course in German may take the class using only the Japanese translation. Homework: To read the text preliminary and identify points that are difficult to understand or questions that you may have (2 hours). To check to see if you have solved the problems and summarize the contents of the text (2 hours).Evaluation criteria: (1)Level of achievement observed in previous summaries, text reading, and Q&A. (2)level of achievement of the attainment objectives as confirmed by the report assignment. Evaluation will be 50% for (1) and 50% for (2). The evaluation criteria are: (1) Whether the German language is correctly understood (30%). (2) Whether or not the structure and methods of philosophical argumentation are understood (40%).
