Outline (in English)

The aim of this course is to give participants the understandings of the Indian Buddhist way of persuasion (rhetoric) used for persuading audience their doctrinal truth and their way of proof used for rationally justifying that truth.
By the end of the course, participants should be able to understand the followings:
1. The logical structure of the three statements expressing the seals of the dharma (dharmamudrA).
2. The characteristic(s) of Buddhist view of truth.
3. Buddhist linguistic theory (apoha theory) and logic.
Before/after each class meeting, participants will be expected to spend four hours to understand the course content.
Your overall grade in the class will be decided based on the following: Presentation (30%), Term-end report (40%) and Contribution in class (30%).
