Outline (in English)

Course outline: This course introduces basic knowledge of the modern physics through the history of alchemy. It also helps students acquire an understanding of the hierarchy and origin of matter.

Learning Objectives: By the end of the course, students should be able to do the following:
・Explain the roles of the nuclear force in an atomic nucleus
・Explain the similarities and differences of the structures between atoms and atomic nuclei
・Explain the basic concepts of the standard model in the particle physics
・Describe the importance of accelerators in the modern physics
・Explain the origin of matters in the universe
・Discuss the possible alternative to alchemy based on the knowledge of the modern physics

Learning activities outside of classroom: Before/after each class meeting, students will be expected to spend four hours to understand the course content.

Grading Criteria/Policy: Grading will be decided based on mini-exam in each class meeting (50%) and term-end report (50%).
