Outline (in English)

[ Course outline ]
This course deals with german existential philosophy. Under the influence of Kierkegaard and Nietzsche, contemporary philosophy has discussed human existence as the finite individual. Based on this concept, Heidegger constructed "fundamental ontology" through the structural analysis of human being as Existenz. Also Jaspers' "philosophy of existence (Existenzphilosophie)" projected an unique metaphysics that can create the existential plurality. The student will obtain basic knowledge about the thinking of existential philosophers by this lecture.

[ Learning Objectives ]
The goals of this course are to
(1) learn basic knowledge about the history and development of german existential philosophy.
(2) understand historical diversity and contemporary potential of concept of the “Existenz”.

[ Learning activities outside of classroom ]
Before/ after each class meeting, students will be expected to have read the teaching materials and reference books. Your required study time is at least four hours for each class meeting.

[ Grading Criteria ]
