Outline and objectives

Students will be asked to actively participate in a wide variety of activities, designed to develop the core English competencies of reading, writing, listening, speaking, and presentations. Students will be expected to actively practice these skills by watching and listening to a short TED video; reading, writing, and discussing topics related to the issue presented in the video. Students will be given homework and assignments. The teacher will provide students with relevant materials, in order to develop these skills. Students will be expected to participate in a variety of oral communication exercises, so they will feel comfortable using English to gather information and express their thoughts. Please note that changes to the course will be made as necessary to accommodate the needs of students and the class.

Goal

The goal of this course is to assist students acquire the critical English language skills, necessary to develop a better understanding of International Economics.

A review of major principles learned during the first semester; note taking, paragraph writing, and how to write a lecture summary.

Student group presentations will be given, along with feedback and additional instruction with respect to advanced presentation skills.

Student group presentations will be given, along with feedback and additional instruction with respect to advanced presentation skills.

“English Mania”.

Students will watch a short TED video about, “English Mania”. Students will take notes and develop a lecture summary based upon these notes.

Group work: Students will work as a group and develop a short presentation based upon some topic they found interesting within the “English Mania” video.

Student group presentations will be given, along with feedback and additional instruction with respect to advanced presentation skills.

“Bhutan"

Students will watch a short TED video about the environment and Bhutan presented in a talk given by Tshering Tobgay. Students will take notes and develop a lecture summary based upon these notes.

Group work: Students will work as a group and develop a short presentation based upon some topic they found interesting introduced by the speaker Tshering Tobgay.

preparation

Students will be tasked with developing a short individual presentation, based upon a topic of their own choosing to be given in class. This presentation will require the presenter to incorporate all of the presentation skills studied and learned in class.
