Outline and objectives

The aim of this course is to develop the listening and speaking proficiency of students by way of a series of assigned tasks done in-class as well as after class. Classes will be online on Zoom through July.
There are 14 classes in this semester. All the classes will be conducted online due to health concerns caused by ongoing pandemic.

Goal

At the end of this course, students are expected to be able to listen to, watch, draft, deliver and evaluate a speech presentation in English. They are all integrated in the sense that the purpose of listening to and watching examples of good presentations is to learn from them the best practices of how to outline and deliver an effective presentation in collaboration with other students.

Lecture-training, group collaboration and presentation, question and answer. Feedback can be given by teachers and students. Students can give feedback in groups. It can be oral and written feedback. Students will practice speeches in groups almost every week. We will have online classes in the spring until July. We will use Zoom every week.

Students can start with a warm up. They will watch one video. They will write and give a speech. They will give feedback in groups.

Students will start with a warm up. We will watch one video. Students will write and give a speech. They will practice in groups.

Students will practice writing and giving a speech. They will make visual aids. They can practice in groups.

Students will start with a warm up conversation. They will watch one videos. They will write and give a speech. They will practice in groups. Students can give feedback and practice conversation.

Students can do a warm up conversation. They will watch one video. They will write and give a speech. They can practice in groups. They can give feedback about other speeches they heard.

Students will write a speech. They can practice in groups and make visual aids.

13[オンライン/online]:Second graded speech

Students will give their final speech for a grade.

14[オンライン/online]:Unit 8

Review and students will do a warm up. They will write or rewrite and give a speech in groups. Students can give feedback and do conversation practice.

Work to be done outside of class (preparation, etc.)

Students should prepare and review an hour or two each week. Students should review the previous lesson and they should check the topic of the next unit speech. It is recommended that students spend some time writing the speech for the next class before it begins. Usually there may not be enough time for students to write during class.

Grading criteria

Class Participation: 20%



Presentations (1 and 2): 80% (half of the grades are for the written speech, which is required)

Each speech includes a written speech along with visual aids.

Equipment student needs to prepare

PC or Laptop or tablet with camera or smart phone with access to the internet. We will use Zoom until July. This is for the first semester.
