Outline (in English)

Among the natural environments in cold regions (i.e., high altitude mountainous regions, high latitude regions), we will focus on various landforms and understand their historical development and morphogenetic processes. The subject matter is mainly referred from Japan, but if there are no typical examples in Japan, we will also take up overseas cases. One day trip to the Okutama Area west of central Tokyo will be planned as fieldwork. By taking this lecture, you will be able to understand the variety of landforms in cold regions, their formation processes, as well as their relationships with global environmental changes in the Quaternary period.
