Outline (in English)
In this class, we will analyze literary texts and films that focus on the making of self. How do characters and speakers evolve over the course of the text? How do cultural and historical contexts inform this process?

「自己」をテーマに、主に英語圏の文学作品と映画を分析する。子供時代、思春期、成人期といった自己形成のプロセスが作品でどのように描かれているか。文化や歴史は「私」にどのような影響を与えるのか。非英語圏の作品とも比較しながら考える。

Students will develop the ability to read texts closely, with an eye to their cross-cultural contexts.

The class revolves around students' presentations and discussions. There will be some lectures, but most of the class time will be devoted to students' active participation. Students will receive feedback on their work in class, via Hoppii, and during office hours.
