Outline (in English)

【Course outline】
Material science is powerful tool to develop advanced technologies as well as to understand the nature of life. In this lecture, how materials play a critical role in a human life including the world's environmental and energy matters is discussed. Not only for the students in chemistry course but also for the students who are not major in chemistry, the series of lectures show the typical topics of material science.
【Learning Objectives】
By the end of the course, students should be able to do the followings:
• To understand classification of matter and basic chemical and physical properties of matter.
• To understand how material science contributes to our life and society.
• To express own opinions concerning various environmental problems.
【Learning activities outside of classroom】
Before/after each class meeting, students will be expected to spend four hours to understand the course content.
【Grading Criteria /Policy】
Final grade will be calculated according to the following process: quizzes for each topic (75%) and in-class contribution (25%).
