Outline (in English)
The purpose of this seminar is to learn fundamentals needed for academic studies. Academic or scientific studies are meant to add something new to a knowledge system in a certain field. You need to utilize existing knowledge of your study field (i.e., previous studies including theories) to know what something new is in the field. Accordingly, you have to independently explore, read, summarize, and constructively critique articles concerning your theme, which should be premised for academic studies, and to find room for academic contributions (adequate research questions). In this seminar, you will acquire instruction, advice, and suggestions for advancement of your study.

授業の概要と目的（何を学ぶか）Outline and objectives
人材・組織マネジメントに関する研究の実践を通じて、学術研究の基本を学習することを目的とします。大学ないし大学院における研究とは、適切な方法に基づいて、ある領域についての知識体系に新しい知見を加えることです。何が新しい知見であるかを判断するためには、既存の知識の学習が必要です。研究の前提となる学習や研究活動は、自分自身で行う必要があります。クラスではその指導・アドバイス等を行います。

到達目標Goal
「人材・組織マネジメントに関する高水準な修士論文を執筆すること」を到達目標とします。そのためには、①人材・組織マネジメントの観点に即した研究テーマの設定、②研究テーマに関連する先行研究の探索、内容理解、論点整理、および批判的考察に基づく研究課題（問い）の設定と仮説の構築、③研究課題を明らかにするための、あるいは仮説を検証するための調査対象の選定、研究デザイン及び研究方法の検討とその実施、④収集したデータの分析、⑤学術論文として文書化すること、等が必要となります。
（理論的研究を妨げるものではありませんが、一般に社会人学生の場合、自らのリソースである職場や所属組織を活用できる経験的研究が望ましいと考えています。）
The goal of this seminar is to write a superior master thesis on HRM (which includes OB, HRD, or Organization theories).
You need to:
(1) read extensively and also understand, sort, organize, and constructively critique previous studies concerning your theme,
(2) set adequate research questions based on critical literature review on the subject you study,
(3) design an empirical study including deciding the research method, data type, ways to analyze, and proposing an analytical framework consist of hypotheses,
(4) select and find a research target suitable for your theme and questions
(5) implement research practices
(6) document and report the results as a master thesis.
Although we also accept theoretical studies as well as empirical studies, studies using your own resources such as an affiliation you work for and/or workplace would be suitable for night-course students who have a lot of hands-on working experiences.

演習は１～3名程度の少人数で個々の学習・進捗状況に合わせて柔軟に実施されますが、平日夜や土曜日を利用して行われることが多いようです。指導スタイルは、履修者数、指導教員の方針や方法論、研究テーマ等に応じて様々です。
また、授業方式についても「対面授業」と「オンライン授業（リアルタイム配信型）」を状況に合わせて柔軟に使い分けながら進めていきます。
ただし、4月上旬のプロポーザル発表会と9月頃に行われる秋の中間報告会への参加は全員に義務付けられています。人材・組織マネジメントコースの全教員からアドバイスを受けると同時に、他の学生の進捗を見ることで、多様な視点から研究テーマを掘り下げていく機会となります。
A seminar for one or a small number of students is usually opened on Saturday or weekday nights in accordance with study progress, schedule, available time before the due date of the master thesis, and others.
The method of instruction depends on the number of students, instruction policy, methodology used, and others. The format for conducting the class (in person, online, or hybrid of them) also depends on situations such as COVID-19.
Note: It is mandatory for students in the HRM course to attend and give presentations at both regular course meetings in early April and September. There will be opportunities, not only to receive advice from various professors in our course, but to recognize your progress compared to other students, and to reconsider your research from new points of views or alternative approaches.

具体的課題に指示された文献等はもちろんですが、テーマに関連する先行研究や分析方法に関する文献は随時自発的に読み学習を進めること。
Although it is obvious to read articles and publications designated by your instructor, you should read previous studies or other related documents spontaneously and initiatively. Studying analytical methods by yourself is also encouraged.

成績評価の方法と基準Grading criteria
報告内容、課題対応や進捗状況などの平常点4割、修士論文の評価6割で総合的に評価します。
Your overall grade in the seminar will be decided on (1) attendance and attitude, assignments, progress reports, and others in seminar (40%), and (2) the manuscript of your master thesis (60%).
