Outline (in English)

Various problems have been pointed out on the Internet, such as fake news, flames, defamation, slander, etc. On the other hand, people's information intake behavior is increasingly shifting to the Internet. As a result, the status of the old mass media (newspapers, broadcasting, publishing, movies, etc.) seems to be declining relatively, while SNS and various other media and services on the Internet are flourishing. On the other hand, mass media outlets continue to be the main providers of news, and a variety of program content is provided by broadcasting and film. It has become difficult to capture various media and communication events with the traditional media-independent approach. Furthermore, the Internet has dismantled the traditional vertically integrated media structure, and the concept of media has changed as it can now be accessed through a single platform, the Internet. The old concept of media has become fluid, and content itself can now be viewed as media. Traditional senders and receivers are becoming relative and there is no longer a fixed and clear division between them. This lecture will reevaluate the social functions of media and communication, and discuss the state of media, communication, and content, including the business structure that supports them, as well as analytical methods and solutions to various communication problems occurring in contemporary society. The lecture will discuss analytical methods and solutions to the various communication problems that arise in today's society. In particular, we aim to acquire a critical perspective that enables us to discuss the relationship between mass media and social media from both perspectives.
